2010 Sophomore Student Survey:
College Comparisons Introducation

This Web document points to tables reporting frequency distributions of responses by college to questions on the 2010 Sophomore Survey. Use the index below to link to web tables of college comparisons by topic. Survey results for all respondents are provided in 2010 Sophomore Student Survey: All Respondents. For information about the survey and analysis methods see 2010 Sophomore Student Survey: Introduction, Methods, and Student Demographic Profile. For exact question wording, see the survey instrument, or click on the "Q" in the section heading of the tables.

The number of sophomores responding from each college varies widely. As noted in the introductory report on the survey's methods, both the actual number of respondents and the response rate effects the margin of sampling error of the results reported. Table 1 below provides information on the number and proportion of students responding to the survey from each college, as well as the response rate and margin of sampling error for the college. The margin of error in results reported for individual colleges in the 2010 Sophomore Survey range from ±2.8 in Engineering to ±32.5 in Design. When looking at reported response distributions, it is important to keep the college margin of error in mind.

Colleges with four or fewer respondents and/or less than a 25 percent response rate have been excluded from the tables reporting survey responses by college. Percentages based on only a few students, or on a small percentage of sophomores in the college, could present misleading portraits of students' characteristics, attitudes, and opinions.
