About this Compliance Audit

We make liberal use of "linked" cross references among the compliance reports when accreditation requirements and standards overlap or call for redundant information.  For example:

About NC State

NC State University is one of 16 constituent universities within the public University of North Carolina system.  NC State is the only land-grant, research-extensive university in that system.

It is the largest institution as well, with nearly 30,000 students enrolled on-campus and through distance education.  Among these students are about 20,000 undergraduates, 6,000 graduate students, and 3,600 students taking courses but not enrolled in a degree program.

The university extends over 2,000 acres, including the Centennial Campus, which provides space for close partnerships among academic departments, industry, and government.  There are another 100,000 acres in outlying field laboratories and forest properties held by the university, its endowment, or related foundations.

NC State expends about $500 million on research annually, a relatively large portion of which is funded by industry and state and local governments.  More than 60 research centers, institutes, and laboratories have homes on campus.

The NC Cooperative Extension Service and NC Agricultural Research Service are headquartered at NC State.  Employees in all 100 counties and the Cherokee Indian Reservation provide extension support to the citizens of the state.

NC State is comprised of ten colleges:

In addition, undergraduates may enter through the First Year College, and the Graduate School supports Graduate Education.

Eleven executive officers lead the campus:

Like other UNC institutions, NC State is governed by two boards:  The UNC Board of Governors and a campus Board of Trustees.  Each has well defined, complementaryresponsibilities and authority.

NC State's more than 1600 faculty hold appointments consisting of one or any combination of instruction, research, or extension.

Two categories of employees serve NC State:  those exempt from the State Personnel Act (EPA) and those subject to the State Personnel Act (SPA).  Exempt employees include Senior Administrative and Academic Officers (SAAO), faculty, and most administrators.  Non-exempt (SPA) employees include classified staff and other administrators.

When planning and considering policy changes, NC State refers to 15 peer universities, which were carefully selected based on similar missions, size, and mix of students.  For many purposes, the most comparable peers include Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Purdue University, and the University of California at Davis.

Courses are numbered in this way:
