Comprehensive Standards: Institutional Mission, Governance, and Effectiveness 3.2.3 (conflict of interest policy)
The board has a policy addressing conflict of interest.

Compliance
North Carolina State University is in compliance with this standard.

Explanation
The Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina (BOG) has established conflict of interest policies.  Exempt faculty and professional staff are covered by “Conflicts of Interest and Commitment affecting University Employment,” which is outlined in section 300.2.2 of the Policy Manual of the University of North Carolina.  NC State University’s policy implementation manual and disclosure forms are outlined in the university’s Administrative Regulation on Conflict of Interest, REG 01.25.1.

A second conflict of interest policy specifically applies to the members of the BOG and the members of the Boards of Trustees of North Carolina State University (BOT).  Members of these boards are subject to the BOG policy on “Dual Memberships and Conflicts of Interest” at section 200.1 of the Policy Manual of the University of North Carolina.

Finally, all employees of the university (including those subject to the State Personnel Act) and all members of the BOG and BOT are subject to the provisions of NC General Statute 14-234, which provides criminal penalties for state employees in specified circumstances, with particular emphasis on business transactions involving “self-dealing.”  That is, the statute prohibits university-affiliated persons from being involved in business transactions with companies in which those persons have a financial interest.
