Subject: NC State Campus Climate Survey - Your opinions matter to us!

Dear NC State Student:

A key goal of NC State University is to build a diverse and inclusive campus community that celebrates and nurtures demographic and intellectual diversity. To help achieve that goal we need to better understand students’ attitudes about diversity and assess the current campus climate. We are asking all NC State undergraduate and graduate students to participate in a brief confidential survey collecting such information. While your participation is completely voluntary, it is very important that as many students as possible from all backgrounds and all demographic groups share their views and opinions to help assure that we have the most representative data. Please take this opportunity to let your voice be heard.

To show our appreciation for your participation, we will randomly select eight respondents who complete the survey by 9:00 AM on Wednesday October 27 and add $25 to their NC State AllCampus Card accounts. In addition, all students who complete the survey before it closes on November 17 will be entered into a drawing in which we will randomly select 4 students to each win $70 cash.

You will need to provide your Unity/Eos logon to access the survey. This will allow us to check your name off the mailing list when your survey is submitted, and will enable us to link your responses to other information in your student record to help us better understand your answers. Be assured that we will protect your identity and keep your responses confidential! The survey data are stored in a secure location, all our reports remove all personally identifying information, and your responses are combined with those from other students. With the exception of the final section of the survey, asking for your suggestions on ways to improve the University, individual responses are not available for use by others.

You can access the survey at the following URL:
http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/UPA/survey/CCS2010.htm

It should only take about 20 minutes to complete the survey.

Please be sure to complete the survey by October 27 to be eligible to win up to $95! If you have any questions about this project, please feel free to contact Jo-Ann Robinson, Assistant Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion, at 515-3899. If you have any problems accessing the survey, please contact Office of Institutional Planning and Research at 515-7520 or email studentsurveys@ncsu.edu. Thank you in advance for helping us meet our goal of providing the best possible learning and living experience at NC State.

Sincerely,
W. Randolph Woodson, Chancellor
Kelly Hook, Student Body President
Ali Kefeli, President, University Graduate Student Association

Subject: Campus Climate Survey - We need your input!

It is very important that we have as much input as possible in making decisions that affect our campus community. Last week Chancellor Woodson sent you an email about an important survey we are doing on campus - - perhaps you’ve also seen signs about the survey posted around campus, or heard people talking about it. We are asking you to help us better assess the current campus climate and understand attitudes about diversity. According to our records, as of 9:00 AM on Wednesday October 27 we had not yet gotten a completed survey from you. If you have taken the survey since then, thank you very much! If not, we hope you take the opportunity now to participate and share your opinions with us. While your participation is completely voluntary and confidential, providing us with your views and opinions will help assure that we have the most representative data.

To show our appreciation for your time we will be randomly selecting eight students who submit the survey by 9:00 AM on Thursday October 4 to also each have $25 added to their AllCampus account. Eight students who submitted the survey by 9:00 AM on October 27 have already been randomly selected to each have $25 added to their AllCampus account - - maybe this time it will be you! In addition, all students who complete the survey before it closes on November 17 will be entered into a drawing in which we will randomly select four students to each win $70 cash.

It should only take about 20 minutes to complete the survey, which you can access online at:

Subject: Campus Climate Survey - We need your input!

Thank you for your participation in the 2010 Campus Climate Survey. I am responsible for administering the survey, and see that as of 9:00 A.M. October 27 you had not yet completed all of the sections in it. If you have completed the survey since then, thank you! If not, I encourage you return to the survey and finish the remaining sections. Again, participation in the survey is completely voluntary, but we are hoping that as many undergraduate and graduate students as possible share their opinions with us.

In order for the results to be meaningful and useful, we need your candid assessments on all topics included in the survey. Some of the sections you might not have answered yet cover such areas as your perceptions of the campus climate for various groups of students, and what you think the role of diversity should be at NC State. The final section provides you with the opportunity to comment in your own words about diversity on campus.

When you return to the survey you will go directly to the next section you need to complete. Many of you are almost done! We appreciate you taking a few more minutes of your time to finish the survey.

The survey is available online until November 17 at
http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/UPA/survey/CCS2010.htm

As a reminder, to show our appreciation for your time we will be randomly selecting eight students who submit the survey by 9:00 AM on Thursday October 4 to also each have $25 added to their AllCampus account. Subject: Campus Climate - What's YOUR Opinion?

Dear NC State Student:

I am emailing to remind you about an important survey we are doing on campus to help us better understand attitudes about diversity and assess the current campus climate from the student perspective. Recent events related to the Free Expression Tunnel emphasize how important it is to systematically gather and report on such information. While your participation in the survey is completely voluntary and confidential, providing us with your honest views and opinions will help assure that we have the most representative data. It is very important that we have as much input as possible in making decisions that affect our campus community.

My office is responsible for administering the survey, and according to our records as of about 9:00 A.M. November 9th we had not yet gotten a completed survey from you. If you have taken the survey since then, thank you very much! If not, we hope you take the opportunity now to participate and share your opinions with us.

It should only take about 20 minutes to complete the survey, which you can access online at:
http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/UPA/survey/CCS2010.htm

To show our appreciation for your time we will be randomly selecting eight students who submit the survey by 9:00 AM on Monday November 15 to each have $25 added to their AllCampus account. Sixteen students who submitted the survey by the earlier deadlines have already been randomly selected to each have $25 added to their AllCampus account - - maybe this time it will be you! In addition, all students who complete the survey before it closes on November 17 will be entered into a drawing in which we will randomly select four students to each win $70 cash.

By using your Unity user ID to access this survey, we will be able to link your responses to other information in your student record, such as your major and how how long you have been at NC State. This helps us to better understand your answers and at the same time keep this questionnaire short. Be assured that all of your responses will be kept strictly confidential! Our reports remove identifying information and combine your responses with those of other students. Your original responses will not be available for use by others.

Please be sure to complete the survey by November 15 to be eligible to win up to $95! If you have any questions about this project, please feel free to contact Jo-Ann Robinson, Assistant Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion, at 515-3899.
